24 Hour Surgery - Latest updates

If it can wait, don't come out late.

The 24 Hour Surgery is here to support your urgent care needs when your general practice is busy or closed. We are not appointment based, which means some periods are busier than others. The most unwell people are seen first, so there may be longer wait times for non-urgent patients. If it can wait, it’s best to come early the next day.

If you need health advice, give Healthline a call on 0800 611 116. They can also help direct you the best place to go.

From time to time, we may need to temporarily redirect some non-urgent patients if presentation numbers are very high.

Always check our 24 Hour Surgery Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.

Yes, it does cost to visit us. We are a private organisation that is owned by Pegasus Health (Charitable) Ltd. Government funding contributes to, but does not cover the cost of running 24 Hour Surgery so we need to charge for our services. If you have an x-ray, the doctor at the 24 Hour Surgery will look at your x-ray results and treat you accordingly.

As a safety measure, all x-rays are checked by a radiologist (x-ray specialist) who is trained to identify abnormalities that would otherwise be missed. If the radiologist reports an abnormality, we will advise you if further treatment is required. However, if you have not heard from us and you are concerned that your symptoms are not improving, please either contact us or your GP immediately.

If you have had a blood test taken and your results require action, you will be contacted by us.

If you haven’t heard from us and want to know your results you can contact us or your GP. If you do not have a regular GP, you can call the 24 Hour Surgery to obtain your results.

As the radiology providers are their own service, you will need to contact them directly for their fees. Find their contact details on their websites below:

Pacific Radiology (pacificradiology.com)

Beyond Radiology (beyondradiology.co.nz)

Reform Radiology (reformradiology.co.nz)

The best time to visit is when you know you need to be seen by a health professional and are unable to see your general practice team. Your wait time will be dependent on how unwell you are. We will be able to give you an indication of what that time is likely to be upon your arrival at 24 Hour Surgery.
