Pegasus Health Board Members

Barry is of Ngāi Tahu, Whakatōhea and Te Whānau ā Apanui descent.

He is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants being a member since 1993 and a member of the NZ Institute of Directors since 2007. He began a governance career in 2002 involving minerals industry associations, the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust and various international commercial joint ventures.

He joined Ngai Tahu Property in 2009, became Chair in 2012 and became Chair of Ngai Tahu Farming in 2019. He is currently the Interim Chair of Awarua Rūnaka, the Chair of Paenga Kupenga Limited being the commercial arm of Ngāi Tūāhuriri and is currently doing consulting work for 7 of the 18 Ngāi Tahu Papatipu Rūnanga.

Since 2013, he has been involved at Director or Chair level in a multitude of companies in the public sector, iwi sector and private sector in health, construction, property, farming, minerals/mining, construction materials, finance and advanced materials. He was on the CDHB Board from 2017 to June 2022.

Since March 2021, Barry has been the Chair of Te Kaha Project Delivery Ltd. In this role he has worked closely with the Council, requiring regular engagement with and understanding of Council processes to ensure the continued delivery of this key asset for the city.  He is also the Chair of the Lyttelton Port Company Limited.

Barry became Chair elect for Pegasus Health (Charitable) Limited in August 2022 and Chair in December 2022.

Brett was a Corporate Finance Partner in the Christchurch office of Deloitte from 1998 and managing partner from 2012.  He retired from the partnership in 2018 to pursue a passion for corporate governance and a number of private interests.

Working in his own capacity Brett has assumed a number of Directorship and Board Advisory positions as well as undertaking various consultancy roles largely in the health, construction, and motor vehicle sectors. Brett is a director of Kiasma Health Limited, Chair of Advisory Boards for Seipp Construction and Killarney Holdings, and the Chair of Miles Group.

Brett joined the Board in March 2023, having previously acted as an adviser to the Board. Brett chairs the Assurance and Risk Committee.

Caroline is Deputy Chair of Pegasus Health (Charitable) Limited and Chair of Pegasus Health Membership Limited. She is Chair of the People and Culture Committee and a member of the Assurance and Risk Committee and Clinical Governance Committee. She is a Chartered Member of the IOD. Other current directorships include Med Design Limited, Autolights, Catapult Employment Services and Tennis Canterbury. 

Caroline is a part-time GP at St Martins Medical Centre. Caroline is also Clinical Leader in GP support for Pegasus Health and is recognised nationally as a leader in addressing burnout amongst health professionals.  Other clinical governance roles include serving on the Whakarongorau Aotearoa Clinical Governance Committee and as a Board Member, Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

After hours she enjoys being an amateur artist and interior designer. Caroline joined the Board in 2017.

Ben is a professional Board member, a globally-recognized technology commentator, and co-founder of a successful workwear and outdoor equipment brand. He is currently Deputy Chair of Kordia, Deputy Chair of Unimed and sits on the board of Corde, The Royal New Zealand Forest and Bird Society, and Paenga Kupenga. Ben is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. He has been an investor in a large number of early-stage technology start-ups across three continents and has had successful exits to listed and privately held companies in Canada, the US, and the UK. Ben is Chair of the Pegasus Commercial, Data and Digital Committee. Ben joined the Board in 2020.

Jock serves as a Director for several health-related businesses, including the Heart Centre at St George's Hospital and NZ Flying Doctors Trust. Prior to his involvement in the health sector, Jock gained extensive experience in major contract management, sales, and marketing, with BP Oil, and financial services with Westpac. Jock is committed to improving healthcare outcomes and supporting community initiatives. With his expertise in contract management, sales, and financial services, he brings a well-rounded perspective to the health sector. While Jock is not a GP, he was elected by the Pegasus GP members to the Board of Pegasus Health Membership Limited and thereby appointed to the Pegasus Health (Charitable) Ltd Board in 2022.

Andrew is a GP who lives and works in the rural town of Leeston. He was brought up on the West Coast and Canterbury, trained in the South Island and has worked in Zambia and the UK. In his role as a General Practitioner, he works as a Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora employee at Ellesmere hospital and as a GPEP1 trainee Teacher.

Previous governance roles include Laboratory Service Level Alliance, Microbiology workstream, Collection centre workstream and Antimicrobial Stewardship committee. Andrew joined the Board in 2020.

Hana is a GP working at Sumner Health Centre. Hana has whakapapa to Ngāi Tūāhuriri, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Toa. Aside from working as a GP and being a Pegasus GP Director, she is an Assistant Research Fellow in Public Health completing a PhD through the University of Otago.  In other roles she is a Member of the Clinical Advisory Board for the Charity Hospital, holds a clinical fellowship with the Health Research Council and is a board member for Nurse Maude. Hana joined the Pegasus Health (Charitable) Ltd Board in 2021.

Brigid is a Nurse Practitioner with a background in rural health who works at the Silverstream Medical Centre in Kaiapoi.  She is a Member of the College of Nurses Aotearoa and Nurse Practitioners New Zealand.  Brigid has served as a Member of the Pegasus Health Nurse Advisory Group and was appointed as a Board Intern (then “Associate Director”) in January 2024.  Brigid then joined the Board in May 2024.

Lucinda is British and worked as a doctor in Scotland before coming to New Zealand in 2007.  She has been a local General Practitioner since 2011 and is now part time at Diamond Harbour Medical Centre. Lucinda also has considerable experience in service improvements and health system integration, for example between primary and secondary care.  She was a clinical leader with the Canterbury Initiative for five years, a clinical editor on HealthInfo and HealthPathways, and a clinical leader for the Canterbury Hauora Coordination Hub during COVID-19, working for Canterbury DHB. Lucinda is a Clinical Lead for Community Partnership across the HealthPathways Community globally for Streamliners.  Lucinda holds a role with Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora as Regional (Te Waipounamu) Clinical Director Primary and Community Care (in Commissioning). Lucinda has served on the Pegasus Clinical Quality Advisory Board since 2020 and joined the Pegasus Health (Charitable) Ltd Board in 2023.

Under a development programme initiated in 2023, a Board Intern has been appointed:

Maira Patu is a GP and Head of Department and Senior Lecturer, Department of Māori/ Indigenous Health Innovation, University of Otago, Christchurch.  She is a Board Member of Te Tauraki Iwi/Māori Partnership Board and Chair, Hauora Māori Curriculum Sub-committee of the MBChB Curriculum Committee. Maira was appointed as a Board Intern in December 2023.
