Here Toitū is a service that helps individuals with a health condition or disability to find or maintain work, study, or volunteer opportunities, with the support of a kaimanaaki (health navigator).

There are two services within Here Toitū, including the Standard Here Toitū service, and Responding Early service.

Here Toitū is delivered in partnership between Pegasus Health and the Ministry of Social Development.

Standard Here Toitū service

This service can help you find work or study opportunities if you have health issues and receive a benefit from Work and Income.

A kaimanaaki will support you to set goals, and connect you with services and organisations to help you achieve them. These goals can include anything important to you and your whānau, like health, wellbeing, education, training, or work. They will also introduce you to the Here Toitū Kaitohutohu (Work and Income Advisor), who can assist you with managing your money.

Eligibility for the Standard Here Toitū service:

  • Be between 18 and 64 years old
  • Have a medical certificate (or be in the process of obtaining one)
  • Currently receive a benefit from the Ministry of Social Development
  • Have a general practitioner in the Waitaha Canterbury region
  • Give your permission to take part in the Here Toitū service.

Responding Early service

This service can help you if you have a job but might lose that job because of a health condition or disability.

A kaimanaaki and work retention specialist will work with you to support your health and wellbeing.

Eligibility to take part in the Responding Early service:

  • Be aged between 16 and 64 years old
  • Be working full or part-time (includes self-employed)
  • Be living with a health condition or disability
  • Your health condition is impacting your ability to work and/or you are at risk of losing your job
